                        PREPARATION OF FIXATIVES


Formalin
                        40% formaldehyde - 10ml (Commercially available)
                        Distilled water - 90ml

Buffered formalin
 It avoids formation of formalin pigment.

                        Formalin                                  - 10ml
Acid Sodium phosphate monohydrate           - 0.4gms
 Anhydrous disodium phosphate                    - 0.65gm
                        Water                                      -90ml


Zenker's fluid
 It is an ideal fixative for the demonstration of muscle fibers.
                                Mercuric chloride                           - 5gm
                        Potassium dichromate           - 2.5gm
                        Sodium sulphate                    - 1gm
                        Distilled water                         - 95ml
 Add formalin immediately before use            - 5ml

Bouin's fluid
 It gives brilliant staining by the trichrome methods.
 Picric acid, saturated aqueous solution                    - 75ml
 40% formaldehyde                                                      - 25ml
Glacial acetic acid                                                         - 5ml

Gendre’s fluid
Picric acid, saturated solution in 95% alcohol - 80ml
40% formaldehyde                                                        - 15ml
Glacial acetic acid                                                        - 5ml

                                      LUXOL FAST BLUE The  method is excellent for staining myelin fibres with good cellular differentiation. Solutions 1)     Luxol fast blue Solution .
