DECALCIFYING FLUIDS

                                                DECALCIFYING FLUIDS

Decalcification is the method by which calcium salts are removed from ; tissue either by action of acids, by chelation or by electrolysis.

 Formic Acid

Formic acid 90%                     - 100ml
 Distilled water                                      -900nil

Nitric acid

Nitric acid                        -  l 50ml
Distilled water                  - 850ml

After decalcification is over, the tissue should be washed in running tap water for several hours to remove the acid, which will affect staining with haematoxylin and eosin.

EDTA Solution

 EDTA (disodium salt)                                  -           55gm
Formalin                                                         -           100ml
Distilled Water                                               -           900ml

This is used for less harder tissues like bone marrow.
